Career Closet Donation Policy

Thank you for considering a donation to our Career Closet! Your contributions help empower individuals by providing them with the professional attire needed to succeed in their careers. To ensure that donations meet our standards and are beneficial to those in need, please review our detailed donation policy below:


Accepted Items:

We gratefully accept the following gently used or new items:

  • Men’s and Women’s Professional Clothing: Suits, blazers, dress shirts, blouses, dress pants, skirts, dresses, and professional outerwear.
  • Footwear: Dress shoes and professional flats or heels in good condition.
  • Accessories: Ties, belts, scarves, jewelry, briefcases, and professional bags.
  • New Items: Hosiery, socks, and undergarments (must be unworn and in original packaging).

Condition of Items:

  • Gently Used: Items should be in gently used condition, meaning they are clean, free of stains, tears, missing buttons, or broken zippers. Items should be ready to wear without requiring repairs.
  • Cleanliness: All clothing should be freshly laundered or dry cleaned before donation. We cannot accept items that are dirty, stained, or carry odors.
  • Current Styles: We request that donated clothing be modern and appropriate for today’s professional work environment. Items that are outdated or not suitable for business settings may not be accepted.

Items We Cannot Accept:

  • Casual Clothing: Jeans, t-shirts, casual shoes, athletic wear, or any items that are not suitable for a professional setting.
  • Damaged Items: Clothing or accessories that are torn, stained, or in need of significant repair.
  • Undergarments: Used undergarments or socks.
  • Personal Hygiene Items: We do not accept used personal hygiene products.

Donation Drop-Off:

  • Drop-Off Location: Donations can be dropped off at Career Closet located on the 2nd Floor of the Student Union during our designated drop-off times: Thursday & Friday between the hours of 1p.m.-4:00 p.m.
  • Appointment Recommended: While walk-ins are welcome, we recommend scheduling an appointment for large donations to ensure staff availability and adequate space for processing.
  • Donation Receipt: A donation receipt can be provided upon request for tax purposes. Please ask a staff member at the time of donation.

Donation Drives:

  • Organizing a Drive: If you are interested in organizing a donation drive on behalf of the Career Closet, please contact us at 601.877.6257. We can provide materials and guidelines to help make your drive a success.
  • Corporate Donations: We welcome donations from businesses, including bulk donations of new or gently used professional attire. Please contact us directly to coordinate corporate donations.

Special Considerations:

  1. Seasonal Needs: We may have specific seasonal needs (e.g., winter coats during the colder months). Please check our website or contact us to learn about current needs.
  2. Monetary Donations: We also accept monetary donations to help with the purchase of specific sizes or items that are in high demand. Donations can be made online or in person.

Ethical Use of Donations:

  • Non-Profit Use: All donated items are used to support individuals seeking professional development and employment. Items will not be resold or used for purposes outside of our mission.
