Position Summary
To serve as a trainer and consultant/expert for all staff members within the agency (MH and SUD). The role will be to research evidence-based modalities and tools, purchase products and training materials, and train all agency staff (including MH, Crisis Intervention, Children and Youth, and Substance Use Disorders) on new modalities and therapy techniques. Consultation and monitoring will ensure implementation with fidelity to the modalities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Work in conjunction with DMH designated Peer Review Evaluators/Assessors to assess the co-occurring readiness and capabilities of the agency’s substance use disorder service system utilizing an evidenced-based tool such as the DDCAT, (training will be provided by the DMH-Division of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Services).
- Provide agency-wide training on person-centered treatment planning.
- Identify training needs and research evidence-based practices to utilize.
- Be trained and obtain certification in evidence-based practices.
- Purchase materials and train agency staff on evidence-based practices.
- Provide monitoring of fidelity to models.
- Serve as a consultant/advisor, as needed, on complex co-occurring cases and on crisis intervention teams.
- Provide basic training on the symptoms, prevalence, detection, and triage for individuals with co-occurring disorders.
- Provide training on other workforce training needs such as ASAM Criteria on Levels of Care, Co-Occurring Curriculum, CPR, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention, Efficacy of Medication Assisted Treatment, Gender Specific EBPs (Living in Balance, Seeking Safety, Helping Women Recover, etc.).
- Audit case records for quality improvement.
- Help develop policies and procedures to address psychiatric crises or emergencies and medication management in both mental health and substance use treatment settings.
- The CODS will be responsible for completing all agency-wide trainings related to the DDCMHT, Hazelden’s Co-Occurring Disorders Curriculum, The ASAM Criteria, and other trainings specified by Division of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Services.
- Attend and successfully complete at least one evidence-based Train-the-Trainer trainings as required by grant.
- Conduct a minimum of six trainings within the designated area as required by grant.
- Conduct trainings for a minimum of 50 staff members within the designated regional/catchment area as required by grant.
- Manage Co-Occurring Disorder Specialist Grant, provide programming as required by grant, monitor grant expenditures, complete continuation applications and grant proposals, submit required reports to DMH or other parties, and ensure all grant activities on carried out completely and accurately.
- Demonstrate appropriate interactions with coworkers that promote a pleasant work environment.
- Complete additional job duties assigned by supervisor.
Education and Qualification Requirements
- Knowledge of MS Department of Mental Health Operational Standards.
- Strong presentation skills conducive to training others.
- Proficiency in developing and organizing training materials and curricula.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Proficient with training technologies.
- Strong familiarity with DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria, and integrated care models.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Required
- Master’s degree in Mental Health field.
- Professional License (Current Mississippi LPC, LCSW, LMFT or LMSW).
Preferred
- Previous experience with EPIC EHR software.
- LCADC/CADC II (Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor) via the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professionals (MAAP).
- Minimum of 2 years of direct clinical experience working with individuals diagnosed with co-occurring disorders.
