Position Summary
Position Summary: The Controls Specialist 1 supports control systems engineering activities across multiple concurrent projects, providing hands-on field support, technical design assistance, and cost estimation for control system implementations. This role requires solid electrical and controls knowledge, along with the ability to work effectively with plant staff, design engineers, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and transition seamlessly between multiple ongoing projects.
- Check and verify cables and wiring in the field to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Perform and assist with site walk-downs to validate field conditions against design.
- Prepare cost estimates for control system scopes and sub-disciplines.
- Support system start-up activities.
- Prepare layouts and conceptual designs for control system installations.
- Develop control narratives and perform markups as part of design documentation.
- Develop and maintain I/O (Input/Output) lists.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with plant staff, design engineering teams, and vendors.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency with computer-based platforms and tools relevant to controls engineering.
- Solid foundational knowledge of electrical systems.
- Configuration and graphic development skills in one or more of the following control platforms: Ovation, Foxboro, ABB, or PLC.
- Hands-on experience providing field support for control systems.
- Experience working with control narratives and markups.
- Practical experience checking and verifying cables and wiring in the field.
- Experience with cost estimating across control system sub-disciplines.
- Experience developing I/O lists.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills for cross-functional collaboration with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors.
